Bobby Saxon offers responsible alternative in GA-10

ATHENS, GA – It looks like some political pundits need help remembering that Georgia’s election season doesn’t end in July.

In a July 17 article of the Wall Street Journal called “Dr. Broun Goes Back to Washington,” columnist John Fund writes, “Dr. Broun will be going back to Washington next year, having won 71% in last night's primary.” There is no mention of Bobby Saxon or his November challenge against Congressman Broun.

“If Mr. Fund had done some research before he wrote this article, he’d have realized that I carried eight counties against both Representative Fleming AND Congressman Broun," said Saxon. "In five of those counties, I carried more votes than my two opponents put together. Last Tuesday, 18,000 Republicans showed they were disappointed enough by Congressman Broun’s performance to vote against their sitting incumbent. That’s not a small number, and definitely not one that the media should be ignoring in a democracy where every vote counts.

“Folks still have nearly four months to make up their minds on their own. We don’t need the Washington establishment and big-shot political pundits pressuring people on how to vote, and we definitely don’t need a Wall Street Journal writer already declaring our next Congressman before anyone has a say.

“I invite Mr. Fund to call me before he writes anymore articles about the 10th district of Georgia. We can discuss my desire to solve real problems in this district in a responsible and bipartisan way.”

Bobby Saxon is an Iraq War combat veteran and small business owner from Nicholson, Georgia. He is a Major in the Georgia Army National Guard and has served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Pentagon. Bobby attends Bethany United Methodist Church, is a member of the American Legion Post 56 in Jefferson, GA and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2872 in Athens, GA.

Athens, GA - Bobby Saxon, candidate for Congress in Georgia's 10th District, had the following to say about the Republican primary last night between his opponents, Barry Fleming and Paul Broun:

“I congratulate Dr. Broun for his victory in last night’s Republican primary. Dr. Broun worked hard in traveling the district to debate his opponent on the issues critical to our nation. I invite him to continue these debates as we move towards the general election."

"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Barry Fleming for his hard fought campaign. Representative Fleming’s track record of public service is undeniable and worthy of respect. His service to his constituents and the state of Georgia has been honest and respectful, and for that I thank him.”

“As this campaign moves into the next phase I look forward to continuing to reach across the aisle in our district and moving our country ahead in a truly bipartisan way. There are dire problems in our country that cannot be fixed with old, partisan solutions. Debates and Forums

The last two weeks gave us a great opportunity to showcase the difference between my candidacy and the ones of my opponents. Yes, we’re always fighting the snub from the mainstream media and the lack of fundraising dollars but we definitely have a surplus when it comes to debating. It’s easy when you’re on the right side of the issues.

Our first debate/forum was back on May 23rd in Greene County but we finished the primary season with a flash with five in a two week period. Barry and I were at all of them. Paul made it to three.

The two biggies in the bunch were the one sponsored by the Elberton Star in Elbert County and the AARP debate in Habersham County. All three of us were present for these two and the moderators did a good job of making sure we covered the most critical topics of this campaign.

One thing became apparent during these debates; even a country boy is smart enough to compete with a doctor and a lawyer if his heart is in the right place. I challenge the winner of their primary to debate me in every county in this district. The voters deserve an opportunity to see us in person and hear our views on working to solve real problems in this country.

This campaign is about getting rid of partisan politics in this country. I know it’s an uphill battle but I believe in my heart that it’s a battle worth fighting. Our country is too divided right now and the extreme left and extreme right are to blame. We have to find a way to work together to solve real problems in this country. We must reach across the aisle, look people in the eye, tell them the truth, and get along long enough to do the right thing for our country. I believe this…. I hope you do as well.

Saxon vs. Broun vs. Fleming

Wow, what a night!

Paul Broun, Barry Fleming, and I debated each other for 90 minutes just outside Greensboro (Greene County) last night at Reynolds Plantation. It was truly a great night for this campaign.

The format allowed each of us to give a 10 minute introductory comment and then we spent approximately an hour answering questions from the audience. We had a maximum of two minutes each to answer our questions. Kudo's to the kind residents at Reynolds for treating me fairly and for being so receptive to my views and my approach to this campaign. I truly believe we walked away with some support and especially with respect.

I did not consider any of the questions to be overly difficult. Most were about the economy and immigration. There were none of the tough questions that you would normally expect when you have two Republicans going against a Democrat with a mostly Republican crowd.

My campaign did video the entire debate. We're working on cutting it down to a few small videos from the hour and a half of raw footage. You'll see some great stuff from us over the next few days.

I can assure you of one thing. I'll be your next Congressman if they don't avoid debating me.

I hereby invite the winner of the Republican primary to debate me in every county in the district between July 15th and election day. What do you say boys? Are you game?
